Description: On February 15, 2013, in Brooklyn, Plaintiff Benito Merida was falsely arrested by Defendants, NYPD employees -- Officer Ferlie I. Fox, UC 7493, and Johns Doe 1 - 10 -- on the grounds that he attempted to purchase a stolen phone, despite the fact that the Plaintiff had agreed to purchase the phone only after the seller, an undercover officer, had assured the Plaintiff that the phone was not stolen. The Defendant Officers, furthermore, told prosecutors that they had observed Plaintiff attempt to purchase stolen property -- a lie -- and prepared paperwork, including an arrest report, to that effect.
